The scattered village of Langthwaite.

Langthwaite is the only village of any size in Arkengarthdale, situated on the loney road that meanders up to Tan Hill from Reeth. Nearby are the hamlets of Arkle, Booze, Eskeleth and Whaw. This scattered community has two pubs, the Red Lion which is near the village centre and the C.B. Inn, overlooking Langthwaite. Once an important lead mining area, the village is now a quiet retreat from the hassles of everyday living. Lead mining has left it's marks on Arkengarthdale. Turf Moor Hush was created by miners breaking into the rock then diverting a stream to wash it all out. There are several other so called Hushes in Arkengarthdale.
Charles Bathurst was a local mine owner and today, the
C.B. Inn bears his initials.
