After Cray, Upper Wharfedale, the B6160 passes over it's summit before descending into Bishopdale. A broad, gentle valley with numerous farms, Bishopdale is one of the lesser known Dales of Yorkshire, but one of the most relaxing.

Looking up Bishopdale from Wensleydale

Descending into Bishopdale, one sees a broad valley with it's patchwork of fields and farms. There are few settlements here, the main ones being Thoralby and West Burton at the foot of Bishopdale, both about a mile and a half (2.5km) from the main Wensleydale road.
A road leads off from the Street Head Inn to Newbiggin and a few yards further on, another road heads towards Thoralby.
