AIRTON
Listed in the Domesday Book as 'Airtone', this village lies to the south of Kirkby Malham. It was once a Quaker village therefore there is no pub here. Airton also lacks shops and a post office. There is still a Quakers' meeting house here and there is a squatters cottage on the green. The village is named after the River Aire which flows through it and there is an old mill on the river here. |
