Some Photographs of the
Pennine Way

Kinder Downfall

The Pennine Way's first peak on it's route from Edale in Derbyshire is Kinder Scout, a plateau 2000 feet above sea level and the highest point in Derbyshire. Upon leaving Kinder Scout, the Pennine Way passes a cascade of rocks called Kinder Downfall.

Walkers on the Pennine Way Here are a few photographs taken in North Derbyshire on a school Pennine Way expedition in 1981. The party was nearing the completion of a traverse south from Scotland, supported for the Alston - Edale stretch by the school minibus.

The school involved were Caldwell Hall School from near Burton on Trent, Staffordshire.

Sell Gill Holes

Above Horton in Ribblesdale are numerous caves and potholes. On either side of the Pennine Way track a mile from the village are the entrances to Sell Gill Holes, a roomy cave system that can be descended via a wet long pitch or three easy short pitches, ideal for the beginner.

Bowes Moor

Half Way There . . .

After a well-earned stopover at the Tan Hill Inn, the walker still has 130 miles to go. Here the Pennine Way sets off across Bowes Moor on it's lonely journey northwards to Scotland.
