Superior 400 year old village pub situated on edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park below Eastby Crag and Barden Moor. Multi-roomed layout with conservatory style bar, eating and drinking areas, games room with bar billiards and 'Ring the Bull' and restaurant area where meals are served lunchtimes and evenings. Horse racing memorabilia and pictures on walls including a horse's skull! Outside seating. Families welcome. Bed and breakfast provided and access available for wheelchair users. Open fire warms quiet bar room.
The inn was built for the local quarry workers whom the landlady refused service on paydays unless they sent home sufficient money to their wives and children for their weekly needs. If they got too over indulgent, they risked a night in the small jail which still stands opposite the pub today.
